Makenzie Phipps, known for her appearance on The Voice, is back today with the release of her new EP ‘Pick Your Poison,’ highlighted by its final track, “Whiskey Kills The Time.” Known for delivering songs that tug at the heartstrings, Phipps once again blends real-life emotion with traditional country storytelling, capturing the all-too-familiar aftermath of heartbreak. With honest lyrics and a classic country feel, the song paints the picture of a breakup eased only by a little whiskey, a lot of reflection, and the tears that come with trying to move on. “Whiskey Kills The Time” was premiered by Country Evolution.

“I am so excited for my first-ever EP to be releasing Friday, March 20th. "It’s been in the works for a while. Since moving to Nashville, I’ve really gotten into writing, and one topic that’s just so dang easy to write about is alcohol! I had written several alcohol‑themed songs over the years. I went to my team and said, “What if I put all my fan‑favorite alcohol songs together into an EP, stated Makenzie These previous released songs include: "Pick Your Poison," "Love Me Sober," "Pink Whitney," "You Bring The Beer, (I’ll Bring The Noise)" and the bonus release, "Whiskey Kills The Time" written by Makenzie Phipps. “It felt right and I’m excited for folks to finally hear them all in one place.”
There was one song in particular — a song Makenzie and her husband and backup guitarist Shane Begley co‑wrote for the EP "Love Me Sober." “When we wrote “Love Me Sober,” I thought that might be the end of my alcohol songs. But this song was different. Alcoholism affects not just the person going through it but their loved ones too. I wrote it to remind people they’re not alone and that there are resources if they want help.”
Most recently, Makenzie appeared on the latest season of ABC’s The Voice, further showcasing her undeniable vocal talent to a national audience. She shares her experience on being on the show and making it on Team Snoop.
“Just being selected is an honor — thousands audition. My friends and I were all nervous we wouldn’t even get the chance to perform because there are only 48 slots. I was on the last day of auditions but got my chance. I was so nervous and standing behind those stage doors, I just prayed: “God, use me as a vessel. Help me make it through this, Makenzie recalls. "Then Snoop turned his chair at the very last second. I still cry watching that moment back. It’s something I’ll never forget. Snoop Dogg was fantastic. I truly believe the Lord paved the way it was supposed to be. At first, I thought Reba would be my dream coach because I’ve sung her songs for years. But Snoop, was one of the most involvved coaches of our season. He cared about what we were doing. He made sure we had Team Snoop gear, and even after I was eliminated, his team kept supporting us. He even brought all the contestants to perform at the Steelers & Chargers halftime show. I’m so grateful.”
