Lee Newton remembers the special moments recording "Workin Girl Blues."
"That was a great record. Not only getting to record "Workin’ Girl Blues" because I love Merle Haggard but then actually have Leona Williams who was married to Merle, who recorded her version of "Workin’ Girl Blues" and have her record the song with me, it just meant the world to me. I really look up to her so much, like a bonus mom cause she's just so sweet and she is a encouragement to me an the younger artist. My producer had reached out to Pam Tillis and she agreed to sing on it with me. I grew up listening to Pam, it was awesome, to have her on the song. They made it so memorable and were so kind. It's a moment that I'll never forget."
Newton shares the inspiration for the Beautifullly Undone Album. "I love songwritting and i love that feeling of sitting in the living room and you're writing and it's just you and the guitar. It's awesome when you go to the studio and, there's amazing studio musician to add their magic to it, but sometimes you get such a full finish product it kind of has a whole totally different feel to it. I have released 4 albums, and I just wanted to go back to the way it was when I first wrote some of these songs. It definitely gives it a whole different feeling when you can touch people with just your voice in your guitar. I'm so proud of how they turned out.
Newton recently teamed with Georgette Jones and Heidi Parton for a special recording of the country classic “Silver Threads and Golden Needles,” released January 19, 2026. First recorded in 1956 by rockabilly trailblazer Wanda Jackson, the song became a powerful anthem of strength, independence, and female empowerment in country music. Over the decades, it was carried forward by legendary voices, including Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, and Loretta Lynn, who helped cement its place in country music history. Seventy years after Jackson’s original recording, the song was reimagined by three women honoring that legacy.
“Recording this song with Georgette and Heidi was one of those moments that reminded me why I fell in love with country music in the first place,” shares Newton. “This song carries generations of history, heart, and truth, and getting to honor that legacy alongside two incredibly talented women I admire so deeply was truly humbling. We didn’t just record a song — we paid respect to the women who paved the way before us and poured our hearts into keeping that spirit alive. Georgette and Heidi are absolute powerhouses, and I’m beyond proud they chose to be part of this project. This will forever hold a special place in my heart.”
"I grew up listening to Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn and I've always loved that song. I told my husband Dale, I want to record "Silver Threads And Golden Needles" but recorded the way Wanda Jackson did it with the second verse. I wanted Georgette Jones, Tammy Wynette’s daughter to sing it with me. I didn’t know her personally, but I met her at the studio and she agreed. I reached out to Heidi Parton, Dolly’s niece and she came and sang on it. We got it recorded and when I heard all 3 of our voices together, it was amazing!"
